Canadian Railroads > The Prince's Lodge Rotunda

The Prince's Lodge rotunda occupies a small peninsula on the Shore of Bedford Basin.  It was built c. 1800 as a music room, and today is the only surviving structure from the country estate of Prince Edward, once the commander in chief of British forces in North America.  It predates the railway of course, and the main line runs through a cut between it and the present day Bedford Hwy. It's somewhat of a challenge to work a train and the rotunda into the same picture, since there aren't a lot of places to stand (that aren't in the water), and the land side is well screened with trees, so my results have been best in the winter and spring when the leaves have fallen.

On April 6, 2007, 120 was passing through the cut as I hung onto a tree and leaned over for this view.  The light cloud cover took the edge off what would be rather nosy light at this time of day (14:00 ADT).
