The City Of Hamilton, Ontario, is at the western end of Lake Ontario.
The city is split by the Niagara Escarpment, which posed a natural barrier to easy transport between the upper and lower parts of the city.
The local newspaper, the Hamilton Spectator, has been posting a series of articles to celebrate the city's 175 anniversary.
Today's article is about the incline railways that served the city for many years until the early 1930s.

Thanks for posting this link!
I was not aware that Hamilton had inclines but, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. Hamilton shared many things with my old hometown of Pittsburgh including steel mills, Polish food and geography. Pittsburgh used inclines (heck; still does!) to get to the top of Mt. Washington so it only makes sense Hamilton used them to reach the top of the escarpment.
