What's a QNSL engine doing in Union Pacific's Proviso Yard??
Author: bbaker

TODAY- On a tour of UP's main Chicago yard, a Quebec North Shore Labrador SD40-2 was spotted.  The number was one of the 310-322 series.  Didn't get a good look at the exact number.  As it appears the railroad does not interchange with any other railroad, am wondering how and for what purpose this got off the property.  Still in original paint.

Thanks,

Bob Baker

That would be QNSL 317 which is enroute to NRE at Mt Vernon, IL for a rebuild.

A couple days ago I spotted it as the fourth engine in the consist on CN's L537 to Glenn Yard from Kirk Yard. So from Glenn it got interchanged with UP.
