It was a Grande day
Author: hoggerdoug

On this day 16 years ago D&RGW 5401 took a trip on BC Rail.  The unit was working off some miles or horse power hours on CN. I never expected to see a unit such as this on BC Rail.
three images taken at Williams Lake BC as we were preparing to head south.

one more image at Williams Lake and a couple of shots at Potter siding.
The 5401 had to say the least a "peculiar odor" in the cab, sort of something dead, something nasty and stale cigar smoke. Never did figure out what the smell was, not that I really wanted to know.
thanks for looking
Doug

Put that on your model layout and watch people laugh their hind-ends off.

What kind of toilets did Rio Grande units have? That sounds like the description of an Incinolet in a Santa Fe or UP unit.

They had flushing toilets.  You hit handle and whoosh, the poo was gone.

Very common in first world countries.

Pretty Cool visit!! Thanks for sharing your photos.

BTW - The 5401 has been preserved at the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden, Colorado.
