Close But No Cigar
Author: cp1400

In the land of BC Rail there is a special fondness for our fallen flag. Occasionally one of the true heritage BC Rail units shows up on a train out here but getting two red, white and blue units together these days in BC is pretty rare. We had a close call on Feb 28 when train 356 left Thornton Yard eastbound with two BC Rail painted units but the hoped for combination of a pair up front was not to be.

1. Train 356 at Deroche BC eastbound on CP Cascade Sub in the directional running zone between Mission and Nepa. CN 3821 and BCOL 4626 on the point.

2 & 3. Positioned mid train was CN 3115 painted in the BC Rail hockey stick heritage scheme.

4. Climbing the hill at Haig on CP Cascade Sub.

5. BCOL 4626 was along for the ride at this point. I don’t know if it was dead or deliberately off line but it silently rolled by while 3821 did all the head end work

6. CN 3115 works hard as mid train DPU at American River near Choate on the CP Cascade Sub

7. Emerging from Yale Tunnel #3 train 356 is making good time on the CP Cascade Sub heading to a crew change at North Bend about 28 miles ahead.

8. Disappearing into Yale Tunnel #2 CN 3115 (CN's BC Rail heritage unit) works mid train DPU on train 356.

Nice set of photos Ken.
You mentioned that the BCOL unit sounded like it was 'along for the ride'.  I understand CN has traded in most of those units and wonder if this one is headed the same way(?).
