Canadian Railroads > VIA Rail Consist

I was out doing a bit of rambling yeseterday afternoon when I happened to see an eastbound VIA
Rail passing through Glen Valley (on the CN east of Fort Langley in B.C.) around 6:00 PM.  There
were three engines and 22 cars--it was a long train--and I was wondering if this is a normal consist
in these Covid times or if there might have been an equipment move involved as well?

The usual consist of the Canadian, based on several reports, is baggage car, two coaches, Skyline, dining car, four Manor sleepers and Park car.

That totals 9 cars, less than half of what I saw, so I guess one would assume some of that equipment was
being repositioned...

Easter/Passover traffic ?

The No. 1 train that arrived in Vancouver on Thursday had five units and 17 cars, the final six deadheading, so that one was definitely an equipment move.

The 11 revenue cars were a baggage car, three refurbished coaches, a Skyline dome, a diner, four sleepers and a Prestige-class Park dome-observation-sleeper.

I assume HEP-I coaches ? What are new seats like in them ?
The seats in the refurbished HEP-II Corridor cars are hard and horrible.

Yes, HEP-1. Several have been operating regularly in the Canadian, painted in Corridor colours. They'll be shifted to Corridror service when enough other cars have been refurbished. Numbers I've seen thus far are 8102, 8109, 8129, all of CP origin.

I haven't ridden in them, so can't comment on comfort.
