MLW Monday - CP RS18u on Ottawa Wayfreight #85
Author: feclark

With apologies for flogging #85, the daily wayfreight from Montreal to Ottawa on the north shore route, it routinely drew MLW power.
1. On August 13, 1986, it was rather early, arriving at Walkley diamond at 1028. This put the sun on the fireman's side as it pulled past the north connector to the yard, a photo I don't think I ever shot on another occasion. Units 1822 and 1807 were in charge of 12 mixed cars plus the van.
2. I hustled across the diamond and over the south connector to catch the backup move from the sunlit side. I didn't need to hustle that much; by the time the train had crossed the diamond and cleared the switch for the south connector, then pushed in past me, it was 1039. You can see the two limitations of this perspective - way down in the ditch, and a heavy cable in the shot. That's why I was on the shaded side for the first shot in yesterday's post of S-11 6620, taken 9 years earlier.
