One thing I'm curious about, the TSB spokesperson was quoted in the article as saying the derailed train was 99 cars, 57 loads and 42 empties, with a total weight of 2942 tons. Maybe it's just me, but that weight seems kind of light for a train of 57 loads and 42 empties. I looked at a bunch of freight car pictures I've taken over the years and the average weight for an empty car seems to be between 27 and 33 tons for things like boxcars, grain hoppers, etc. I'm inclined to think there may have been a typo, but who knows, maybe it was 57 loads of lightweight cargo like popcorn or potato chips. Or maybe I miscalculated the numbers...

Train was Q18331-24, length 5968 ft. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/27/21 16:01 by railsmith. Doubt Amtrak would have allowed that. Since passsengers still aren't allowed (I believe) out of their rooms except for dinner, can you only imagine had they not, stuck in their rooms for 5 hours not moving. When is VIA going to dump these draconian rules and return the train to it's intended use with full access to domes and lounges.
