Amtrak's Canadian trains in 2022
Author: DrawingroomA

No-one is going to be surprised that these trains aren't returning for a while. This is the first time I have seen it reported by a major news source.

The Canadian-required PCR test I think is the main show stopper. Besides being $200, and be taken within 72 hours (or 3 days, whatever) prior to each trip, imagine the American train crews having to get one for every round trip. It is not workable. Even the Maple Leaf's train crew has to enter Niagara Falls, ON (where do they spend the night - taxi back to Niagara Falls, NY ?) , and I don't think VIA Rail is terribly enthusiastic about running it in any event.

The phase out of PCR test will come in steps. Steps 2 and 3 do not have target dates:

Not helping matters is Covid is now raging as badly as it is in parts of Europe in some rural counties in central and western New York.
