Canadian Railroads > CBC Article about Vancouver Rail Access Re-opening

Checking around the Web many issues continue in the Vancouver area from the heavy rains, I'm sure some folks know this first hand while others are looking for published updates:

"... trains were running at very low rates even before the Montreal-based railway pulled the plug on its reopening efforts.

"We hope ... that this gets back to normal as soon as possible, but it's going to take weeks at least, months probably.''

Well considering that it's raining hard right now and will continue until tomorrow morning at the earliest they may be justified in pausing their reopening plans until things settle down a bit and the water levels go down.

How's Vancouver Island and Victoria holding up ?

Some idiot in Victoria had an op-ed piece published in Saturday's local rag  pounding the table for frequent and low cost bus service to fix the Malahat Highway problems. He didn't specify that they would have to be flying busses so they could get above and around the frequent washouts, mud slides, fallen trees and accidents that actually close that highway to traffic, screwing things up for hours if not days on end.

Saw elsewhere, a sawmill, pulp mill and MDF plant may shutdown in Quesnel BC account no rail service car shortage etc etc because of the chaos the flooding has caused.
It'll be a longtime before the rail systems recover from these rain events.
