CP Snow Plows go to work at Revelstoke 12/29/21
Author: JPB

At 1627 PST Wednesday 12/29/21, a symmetrically configured plow train powered by a pair of SD40s (I think - it's hard for me to tell in the low light) charges west past the Revelstoke Live Cam presumably to do battle with Pacific coast storm snow accumulations.

Is the plywood still over the cupola windows on the plow in the top shot???

Interesting to see a snowplow in front of a Jordan Spreader, but it's a really big snowplow and the Spreader has a very low front plow. It's also probably easier to get back on the rail after something goes wrong.

Curious if the Jordan Spreader is equipped with Locomotive controls in the cab. There's not much info on snow removal in these areas, I'm also thinking if the set gets stuck in an avalanch it's best not to have operators or coomplicated cabling in the front of the consist, just uncouple with the rear set and plow out.

Looking through the CBC news last night, it's also exceptionally freakin' cold.

Plow train operated from the locomotive. Headlight controlled from the wedge plow. These plows have some antique air horns, including some one chime "blat" horns the came on the original diesels

And I love seeing a quite rare Multimark CP locomotive as well!

Yup, good stuff all around. Such remote, inaccessible tracks though for there to be too many photos

I was there with my family a couple of years ago in April and there were literally several avalanches that had the main thoroughfare through the region at least partially blocked. Massive piles of snow, dirt and trees just sliding down the mountain sides....
