Canadian Railroads > CP 5687 in Cranbrook BCDate: 12/30/21 20:56 CP 5687 in Cranbrook BC Author: Blackfoot I was passing through Cranbrook BC in the summer of 1982 when I took this picture of SD40-2 5687. Try as I might, I've never been able to find out what happened to cause this much damage. While the unit was repaired and returned to service, whenever I look at this picture I always hope the crew members involved were just as fortunate.

JB Date: 12/31/21 08:35 Re: CP 5687 in Cranbrook BC Author: eminence_grise There was a runaway on the Fording Subdivision in the early 1980's. No injuries but massive destruction of coal cars and mid train remotes.
CP did a very thorough investigation as to the cause of the event, which resulted in changed technology related to Locotrol 1.05 technology and crew operating practices. The presence of SD40-2 5838, a Locotrol master unit. Educated guess. Date: 01/01/22 13:42 Re: CP 5687 in Cranbrook BC Author: ns1000 I am cringing just looking at that.......
