Canadian Railroads > CP 8500 blows a radiator hose at Revelstoke 1/12/22?

Just as a westbound coal train approached the Long Avenue crossing in front of the Revelstoke live cam at 1454 Wednesday 1/12/22, it looked like a radiator hose (?) gave way on the lead unit AC4400CW # 8500 as steam spewed out. The crew apparently noticed quickly (would an over temp alarm go off in the cab?), stopped, and reversed back to the yard at 1515. Apparently by 1758, repair had been made and the coal train re-launched westward.

            Your vehicle has a temperature gauge, as does machinery, truckes, etc. Of course they have such things.

There’s not a temp gauge on the Home Screen. You could go to the monitor screen and look at water temp. Likely, you’d get a engine deration for either low water or high temp, and eventually a shutdown. Either will drive a message at the bottom of the screen. That probably made a noise too.

Surprised that CP had any one there that could repair it (not many mechanical forces left away from the few remaining rail shop facilities).

Could also be a bunch of snow/water boiling off. I see that quite often. If it was a blown hose I doubt it would have been fixed fast like that.

If it was just snow melting off there would have been no need to return to the yard.
Two and three quarters of an hour should be ample time to change a simple hose...

If you have one in stock. It's not like you can run down to the NAPA store...

I really don't recall a "radiator hose" on locomotives. The cooling water circulates in steel pipes with flange / bolt connectors. I tend to agree with another reply, it was snow melt / steam coming off the rads. I have seen that when a loco has been sitting idle during a snow or cold rain event. The engine heats up, the snow melts on the warm rad and creates steam in the cold atmosphere.
