When did they move the horns from above the cab?  I suspect the union had something to do with that.

was DRGW 5401 working off "horse power hours" owed by UP to CN. It travelled quite extensively in Canada.

Moved back to the car-body early 1990's after the GE Dash 8's arrived.  Yes the Unions really pushed to have the horns moved back. There was some concern that the decibel level would not meet railway standards when moved back along the car-body. Tested on one locomotive and the noise level our front passed.

I'd never noticed before how the white stripe on the 4640s didn't look right at the front, because the top on the cab side lies above the change to the sloping part of the nose.
