I was fortunate to catch all four trains into and out of Halifax one day last week, and even had close to full sunshine for most of them.

Q122 was first to arrive on July 12, rounding the curve across Moirs Mill Pond at 08:35.  About half an hour later, Z120 was at the same location.  Z120 usually gets the domestic intermodal traffic, and there was plenty of it loaded in 53 ft. CN containers.  These are delivered to a variety of customers, but Wal-Mart is a big user of CN's intermodal service.

Ideally, Q123 should be ready to leave Rockingham as soon as Z120 arrives, or if 120 is later, a meet at Alton or Belmont is also a possibility.  But Q123 was going to use the two trailing units from Q122 to go west, so the crew couldn't start building their train until 122 was in.  3265 and 2874 had been off-line on the way down from Moncton, so no re-fueling was required before they left again.  They are shown here at the top of the hill, Bedford Quarry, at 11:38.

Finally at the end of the day, it was time for Z121 to depart, this time powered by the two ex-CREX leasers that had come in that morning, and a GP38-2 going back to Montreal for servicing.  My luck didn't hold out for the good lighting, the sun had slipped below the clouds on the horizon as the train crossed the Moirs Mill causeway again at 20:25.
