A few from the area of the CN Point St. Charles shops.

1.  VIA 6521 in a photo by Guy Chartrand.  June 2, 1979.

2.  SD40 5013 and others either needing work or waiting to be scrapped.

3. A few BN F45's were there.  Info found online indicates the 6611 (nee-GN 438) became a load test box for Alstom.   October 4, 1987.

Great photos.

CN GP9 4587 was retired on 13-Nov-1985 and awaiting its turn through the GP9RM program. It would be rebuilt as CN GP9RM 7018 on 19-Jun-1988.

CN SD40 5013 was there for repairs & would be upgraded with a “Dash 2” electrical system & released in 1989.

CN (VIA) 6535 was damaged in washout derailment near Duplessis, PQ on 15-May-1981. It sat at Pt. St. Charles until it was sold to Century Locomotive Parts on 29-Sep-1991.

The accident damaged GP40-2LW almost certainly was CN 9435, which was damaged in 1986. It would be retired 03-Nov-1987 and eventually scrapped.

It looks like the RDC is coming out of the shops it may be heading to Central Station.  In the summer of 1987 there was only one service using RDCs and that was the north-shore line (CP Rail) to Quebec City.  At that period of time there were two round trips daily plus one round trip except Sunday.  In the autumn of 1987 however the line was severed east of Three Rivers, QC.  VIA only chartered one bus service to complete the balance of the trip to Quebec City.  Since October 4, 1984 was a Sunday there were only two trips out of Central Station to Three Rivers, No.162 departing at 15:30 and No.164 departing at 19:30.  Since the sun set at18:30 on that Sunday, my pick would be VIA No.162.

Really nice series. Amazing that one could sign a waiver and be able to wander around the property back in the day.
