Passenger service on BC Rail
Author: P

Just watched a DVD on BC Rail which highlighted the passenger service north out of Vancouver. A Google search revealed bluntly that the service ended in 2002.

Is this service long gone, or is there any vestige of the service left on ex BCRail tracks?

BC Rail ended the service before the sale to CN went through.

The Seton Lake First Nations Band operates a railbus between Lilooet and Seton Portage.

The article is from 2019 but here's an update from September 2022: "Hi…..a Local here, updating the info for folks curious about the shuttle. The shuttle is now running on a regular basis, Monday to Friday. It is now a ‘high rail bus’ but still goes along the railway tracks. The shuttle leaves Lillooet most mornings, goes to Seton to pick up the high school kids and brings them into Lillooet before school starts. The shuttle then goes back to Seton for the public run. So it is now possible to do a return trip in a day, for $10 return trip. Call 250-259-8300 for reservations. This number is only monitored Monday to Friday, and closed for lunch. Just leave a message and they will put you on the reservation list. You may not hear back from them."

Rocky Mountaineer has been operating seasonal service, between North Vancouver and Jasper on the former BC, one round trip a week.  It's the Rainforest to Gold Rush route.

The Rocky Mountaineer seems to be the best kept secret on TrainOrders. Occasionally there's mention of it, sounds like a heck of a trip over some interesting trackage.

It's very, very expensive which kinda limits the number of people who want to ride.

Last I heard, the neat little rail bus was replaced with a school bus with Hi-Rail gear.  But at least the service itself is still going.

I thought this is no longer active after CN stopped service on the majority of the original BC Rail main line?

The Rocky Mountaineer service via Whistler has operated in the past two years. It was revived in July 2021 after being shut down for the pandemic in 2020.
