W&H Pickup at Windsor Jct.
Author: cn6218

Unlike the days when Canadian Pacific owned the Dominion Atlantic in Nova Scotia, and had running rights into Halifax, the Windsor & Hantsport did not.  Therefore, interchange took place at Windsor Jct., 16 miles from downtown Halifax on the Bedford Sub.  On June 9, 2009 CN train 507 was pulling out onto the main line at mile 15.7 with 5 empty grain hoppers.  The connection between the two railways was a wye, with a short siding along the east leg, and the west leg was only ever used for turning VIA or CN trains.

In the second photo the conductor has lined the switch back normal, and 507 is fully on the main line and heading back to Rockingham with the short train.  Windsor Jct. was a "double" junction, with connections to both Windsor and Dartmouth NS.  The track to Dartmouth, and signal H155-1 controlling it, are in the foreground.  Today, the switch to the Dartmouth Sub is the only one remaining, so for railway purposes, this might be renamed "Dartmouth Jct."  The WHRC rails are mostly still in place, except for the switches, but have not seen a train since 2010.
