Canadian Railroads > CP-KCS "Merger" ?

It's interesting that everyone including the STB refers to this as a merger when the reality is that it is a takeover.

Aren't all mergers just that, a takeover? There's always one party that is either bigger or just in better financial shape that is calling the shots. The other company is the willing or not-so-willing victim.

Just get on with it and show us the new CPKC paint scheme.

Take a look at the current CP paint scheme. You're looking at the CPKC paint scheme. CPKC will be a paper railroad.

So will the entire combined network simply be called CP?

Didn't they learn from the last few mergers how poorly of an image a bunch of letters crammed together looks and sounds?

Canadian Southern would have been much better, IMHO.

Or, heck what about Canex? Canmex? Cansouth? All of which sound better than CPKCSR, or whatever mess they chose.

Maybe they'll go back to "CP Rail"....
Bring back the "multi-mark" (now referred to "multi-nation" mark, action red, and tiger striping...LOL

Keith Creel chose the name. I think it will get more visibility than you suggest.

I don't believe takeover is a term usually employed in legal filings like this. It has an unfavorable connation.  "Business combination" or "merger" (but not "merger of equals") is often preferred.

You check to see what the combined board looks like to see what's really happening.

In Star Trek speak the KCS has been Assimulated.

Depending on the terms of the deal, the KCS senior people may be in high green now. Get your severance, get your stock options and restricted stock bought out, maybe get a terminal relocation deal.

The CP folks? Get up tomorrow morning and go to work...
