Canadian Railroads > More Rocky Mountaineer on BC RailDate: 05/18/23 01:07 More Rocky Mountaineer on BC Rail Author: cp1400 Here is a look at some Rocky Mountaineer action on BC Rail from the south end of Anderson Lake near D'arcy to Pemberton taken last Wednesday May 10, 2023.
1. Clinging to the cliff walls along Anderson Lake RMR train 614 nears tunnel 125.6 near the village of D'Arcy. 2. Starting up the legendary 2.2% grade to Birken summit RMR train 614 passes through the village of D'Arcy. 3. Rounding a curve between Divine and Gates at approx. MP 120 with snow capped Coast Mountains for a backdrop. cp1400 Edited 1 time(s). 5. Along Gates Lake almost to the top of the grade at Birken. 6. Just south of Creekside along the Birkenhead River. cp1400 ![]() ![]() ![]() Date: 05/18/23 01:12 Re: More Rocky Mountaineer on BC Rail Author: cp1400 7. Reflection in a muddy pond near Owl Creek.
8. Stopped at Pemberton to unload passengers for the day. Mount Currie provides the backdrop. 9. Putting the train away for the night involves running a little further south out of Pemberton past One Mile Lake to a stop by the Nairn Falls highway crossing. Passengers are bussed to Whistler for the night and rejoin the train at the Whistler Station in the morning. It's a pity they miss the scenic 22 miles between Whistler and Pemberton both ways. By parking in the woods for the night the idling locomotives and train generators don't bother the townsfolk at Pemberton. cp1400 ![]() ![]() ![]() Date: 05/18/23 11:24 Re: More Rocky Mountaineer on BC Rail Author: ABB Interesting rusty rails ahead of the locomotives. No freight trains on this line?

CN has a long term lease on the BC Rail lines and since early April 2020 has embargoed through freight service on roughly 220 miles between Squamish and Exeter that include the most rugged and scenic portions of the line. For now, the seasonal Rocky Mountaineer "Rainforest to Gold Rush" train is the only one to run over that portion of the line. Occasional moves to store cars in sidings and rare detours are exceptions. It's a far cry from when BC Rail was independant and they ran three freight trains per day in each direction plus passenger service. How long CN will maintain this portion of the track for a seasonal tourist train remains to be seen. cp1400 Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/19/23 02:16 by cp1400.
