Start of service to Jasper has been extended from September 3 and is now expected to be September 15, but could be extended again.

For this reason, VIA Rail trains 1 and 2 will not stop in Jasper until September 15th. This period could be extended if necessary. Train service has been completely re-established, and trains have been travelling as per scheduled since August 7th, but without stopping in Jasper. In the event that we cannot guarantee safe operation, trains might be cancelled before departure or while en route, without offer of alternate transportation. Trains 5 and 6 The municipality of Jasper is currently inaccessible due to the aftermath of the spreading wildfires in the region. For this reason, VIA Rail has cancelled its train service without offering alternate transportation between Jasper, AB and Prince George, BC until September 15th. If necessary, this period will be extended. Here are the details applicable to every departure until September 15th. - Train 5 will be cancelled from Jasper to Prince George. The train will resume its trip from Prince George to Prince Rupert the next day. - Train 6 will be travelling from Prince Rupert to Prince George. The train will be cancelled from Prince George to Jasper the next day. There are no facilities available for tourists. The reservation page for the largest hotel, the Jasper Park Lodge, is not accepting bookings until late November. I wouldn't be surprised if the resumption of VIA service is postponed again.

It is just beyond unbearable. I'm planning on riding the eastbound Canadian in Spring of 2025 from Vancouver, BC to Jasper and then the Jasper to Prince Rupert Train. I hope that more hotels in the Jasper area will be open by Spring of 2025, otherwise the trip won't happen until 2026. No reservations have been set yet.
