Canadian Railroads > Saturday at SouthwarkDate: 10/12/24 17:12 Saturday at Southwark Author: Ray_Murphy I went to the footbridge over the east end of CN's Montreal Southwark yard today for the first time in a couple of years. It was quite cold, with high winds and scattered fast-moving clouds, but I had reasonable luck getting pictures of all the trains that I came for.
Picture #1: power for CN #522 backing into the yard track for its train. Picture #2: VIA #622 on its way to Quebec. Picture #3: CN #522 moving out onto the main tracks so it can start down the Rouses Point Sub. Picture #4: CN #522 entering the Rouses Point Sub. Picture #5: VIA #15 arriving (approximately a half-hour late). Picture #6: CN 3830 after having moved a block from the south side siding to the main yard, with VIA #35 passing by (VIA #35 was approximately 10 minutes early, even though these Venture trainsets have some new grade crossing restrictions as of this week). Picture #7: CN #120 passing by. Picture #8: CN #120's DPU. Picture #9: Amtrak #68 entering the Rouses Point Sub. I should point out that you have to shoot through a chain link fence at this location. Bob Date: 10/12/24 20:12 Re: Saturday at Southwark Author: feclark That's a really nice series. You did some fast footwork between photos 3 and 4, I take it?

Actually, there's 12 minutes difference between those two shots: In the first, the train is coming down the yard ladder. It moved onto the south main, clearing the crossovers, then backed to where it could get access to the crossover and turnout to the Rouses Point sub. The train had about 25 cars.
