Canadian Railroads > Ex-Reading Crusader cars on CN/VIADate: 10/15/24 04:45 Ex-Reading Crusader cars on CN/VIA Author: gcm Dec 1980
Cars being taken out to the yard in Toronto include 2 of the 5 ex-Reading Crusader cars acquired by CN in 1962. The cars were built by Budd in 1937. 302 was one of two observation cars (originally used at each end of the train so no turning was involved). The other car looks like 303 a coach. The cars were retired a couple years later and I believe two survive today. Gary Date: 10/15/24 07:47 Re: Ex-Reading Crusader cars on CN/VIA Author: boejoe Nice shots Gary. On the Reading the cars were numbered 1 to 5 with 1 and 5 being the observation cars, 2 and 4 were coaches and the middle dining car carried the Crusader name. Pretty sure #3 did not appear on the car.

Charls Date: 10/17/24 04:56 Re: Ex-Reading Crusader cars on CN/VIA Author: joemvcnj Given the fact that the roof over the observation end is still silver, though non-corrugated, I assume it is black paint to mimic the CC&F CN fleet.
Those cheap, $6 Tyco HO models from the 1960's are a pretty good match for it https://www.ebay.com/itm/276673758492?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=276673758492&targetid=2299003535955&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9004000&poi=&campaignid=21214315381&mkgroupid=161363866036&rlsatarget=aud-1297900594210:pla-2299003535955&abcId=9407526&merchantid=6296724&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw68K4BhAuEiwAylp3kr1p_l2q4C9vRHnRN2YniXGdCji7uECrerOgelgXaId-6QKusuBHGRoCCL4QAvD_BwE Edited 1 time(s). It still has CN marking on the inside. You can often see it on the Virtual Railfan Strasburg RR cam.
