Canadian Railroads > Plowing Snow in the Matapédia ValleyDate: 03/10/25 14:34 Plowing Snow in the Matapédia Valley Author: cn6218 Because of all the trouble with VIA 15 on Friday/Saturday last week, its eastbound counterpart, 14, was delayed near Rimouski, QC by about 4 hours. Fortunately, I was in northern New Brunswick on the weekend, and could take a drive up the valley to see the Ocean near Clarks Brook at 09:41 EST, and then arriving in Campbellton at 11:32 AST. 14 maintained the 4-hour lateness all the way to Halifax, so it would appear that a bad meet with 15, rather than engine problems, was the cause of the delay.
The equipment should have gone back to Montreal yesterday, but perhaps because 15 was not going to be able to leave, both trains were delayed by 24 hours. 15 is shown at Bedford Quarry today, just after noon ADT. Because Z120 was arriving they momentarily got a red light at Millview (8 miles from the station), but it quickly cleared and they were on their way west. Hopefully they do better than last Friday's train. Right now they are just west of Miramichi, and showing 24 hours and 16 minutes late, which is really only 16 minutes if you discount the day late departure. Hopefully all are warm onboard. Sadly, not a lot of spaces to go to now that the Park Car or Skyline Dome can't be in the consist anymore. Wish they could dedicate maybe two Skylines here on the Ocean that could get seats that flip, and with some better lounge seating in the opposite end of the first level from the table seating. Really need a better lounge car on this train at present. The Renaissance Lounge cars are HORRIBLE. It's too bad the even the Panorama Cars are in such bad shape that they couldn't have been used on the Ocean. Their seats do turn. Snow shots are extra cool when you can't see the rails like in the first one. I was also amazed at the ice build up on the F40's.
