Canadian Railroads > Looking for an Intermodal Flatcar type IDDate: 03/10/25 16:23 Looking for an Intermodal Flatcar type ID Author: Ray_Murphy Yesterday's CN 430 had a block of 5 or 6 newish spine-type intermodal flatcars loaded with four 20' containers (Picture #1). It's been years since I last saw this type of car/cargo. From my vantage point, no reporting marks were visible. Does anyone know what kind of cars these might be?
Picture #2 shows the train (location: Ville St-Pierre, Montreal). Or maybe AHEU, but can't find that either. Also can't exactly see the hazardous placard but it looks to start with maybe 168. If you have any other pictures of the containers it could give us more clues

TO contributor PHall had an early response to this thread (since deleted) in which he thought the spine cars were designed for trash container service. I think this is correct, as I found a picture of what may be the same type of car once stored on the Batten Kill Railroad: http://photos.nerail.org/showpic/?photo=2015032007561623392.jpg&order=byrail&page=1&key=Battenkill Ray p.s. the placard is indeed 168 (with a small 6 at the bottom). 168 is not a valid placard number. The containers are probably placarded 1689 for sodium cyanide. Is there a gold mine in the direction they are headed? Edited 1 time(s). UN1689 makes sense for the class 6 placard and marine pollutant placard Date: 04/02/25 16:48 Re: Looking for an Intermodal Flatcar type ID Author: Ray_Murphy Rowdy Wrote:
