Snow Plough Saturday

I posted a picture of ex-CN plow 55419 about a week ago, More from the Gaspésie, and that reminded me of a snowplow that was a resident of Halifax in the mid-90s.  Although I never saw it in operation, CN 55360R spent about a year parked near the Rockingham yard office in Halifax.  It is a 1928 product of Eastern Canada Car (Trenton, NS).  Although the resolution is too low to see here, it was stenciled "TESTED & READY FOR SERVICE 11-97", in this slide taken at Rockingham on April 19, 1998.

About a year later, it was sold to the Windsor & Hantsport, and I did get to see it operating there, although only at slow speeds. On January 27, 2004 WHRC ran the wayfreight to Windsor Jct. with a couple empty covered hoppers.  Since a hi-rail inspection was due, they put 55360 on the front of the train and cleared out a number of crossings along the way.  It's show here nearing the Hwy 1 level crossing in Mt. Uniacke, the high point of the line between Windsor and the Junction.

Looking up the information on 55360 and 55419 in the TSG, I see that although the two plows appear to be virtually identical, 419 was built by CN in 1939.

The W&H was a neat operation, sorry it died. Great historic shot all the same!
