Canadian Railroads > What's happened to the Canadian?Date: 04/02/25 06:05 What's happened to the Canadian? Author: TomPittsfieldMA I supposed to be on #2 (30) westbound right now, but had to postpone the trip.
It departed Toronto 15:35 late at 1:30 a.m. on the 31st. Asm.transitdocs shows it has having departed Winnipeg 18 hours late at 1:29 p.m. April 1. But from the next stop, Portage la Prairie it shows as on or relatively close to time, then most recently 3:29 late at Edson. Is this possible? Update: Seem to have found the answer in an email I'd missed on Canadian-Passenger-Rail. "A travel advisory e-mailed by VIA on March 31 at 02:12 EDT: "Due to severe weather conditions, VIA Train 1 departing March 30th, 2025 was forced to return to Union Station after fallen trees and widespread power outages caused a complete shutdown of infrastructure west of Toronto. "Despite ongoing efforts through the night to clear the tracks, additional storm damage has made the route impassable. As a result, VIA Rail has made the difficult decision to cancel Train 1 between Toronto and Winnipeg. "Your ticket will be cancelled and refunded automatically. In addition to the refund, passengers will be offered a credit valued at 100% of the price paid for the cancelled train and valid for 12 months." It appears indications of very late westbound train were computer generated fiction and that the eastbound 2 was subsequently turned at Winnipeg and became the westbound 1 to Vancouver . Author: JPB I read in the Ingersoll live cam chat that CN has diverted a number of trains headed west from Toronto via Sarnia that would ordinarily have run through northern Ontario. Major storm damage in northern Ontario was cited as the reason for the detours.

Even when a train is cancelled, as is the subject of this thread, a phantom train can show up on the list of times and/or on the map. Sometimes the map is correct but the list of station stop times is wrong or v.v. The vast majority of time it is correct, especially in the corridor.
