VIA seems to have new Venture equipment on all the Quebec City-Montreal-Ottawa trains these days.  On a recent trip to Montreal I was able to see quite a few examples, and were running with an SCV-42 Charger at one end, four coaches, and a cab car at the other, for a total of 24 axles.

On May 23 I caught train 35 to Ottawa, about to make the station stop at Coteau Jct., about 40 miles west of Montreal.  Cab car 2310 was leading, with Charger 2210 shoving the train.  In the second photo, with the station stop completed, the westbound train is snaking through the crossover from the south to north track and then onto VIA's own Alexandria Sub for the remainder of the trip to Ottawa.

The coaches feature this information display near the doors showing car number, train number and upcoming stops.  The relatively fast shutter speed of my camera caused the blank lines to appear.  It was much more readable to the naked eye.

The next day we intercepted a few more, this time just west of Quebec City.

At 10:50 train 637 was approaching St. Apollinaire, led by SCV-42 2204.  In the going-away view next to Autoroute 20, the same train is about to knock down the intermediate signal.  Cab car 2203 was on the rear this time.

About 10 miles farther west, train 637 met 622, and I was able to catch the eastbound east of Trudel siding at 11:19, just before the train crossed the Chaudiere River and took the switch at West Jct. to continue on to Charny, Ste-Foy and Quebec City.  Cab car 2307 was leading, and road traffic was busy enough on the bridge I was standing on that I didn't make it to the other side for a going-away shot, or to get the number of the locomotive shoving.
