Farnham revisited. Part 1 History.
Author: moonliter

I started out wanting to do a post about trying to photo places that I was almost 50 years in the past; presenting it as xxx Revisited.  My first post brought a few questions about the Central Vermont Railway in southern Quebec.  Therefore, I will start out this post with a map of the CV in the area covered to help those who may not be familiar with the area. I have found a map of Farnham showing the former CV’s routing prior to April 26, 1936 when the CNR acquired running rights over the CPR
A few notes before I start.  I customized a map from C. Andreae’s “Lines of Country”.  Much of my sources were J.D. Booth’s “Railways of Southern Quebec”, R.C. Jones “Central Vermont Rly” series, CRHA “Canadian Rail” and my personal timetable collection.
Other notes; Vermont Central RR became the Central Vermont RR on Nov 2, 1872, then to the Central Vermont Railway, after being acquired by the GTR on March 21, 1899.  On November 1, 1923, the CVR leased its Quebec trackage except the 25 miles of trackage from the Vermont border to St. Johns.  This was done in order for the parent company to avoid paying duties on equipment and also to improve internal efficiency.

Very interesting post!  I hadn't realized the CV had such an extensive presence in Quebec.
