Canadian Railroads > MLW Killers on the GaspéDate: 01/04/26 18:49 MLW Killers on the Gaspé Author: cn6218 The formerly all-MLW Société du Chemin de Fer de la Gaspésie (SFG) added four Helm GP38-2s (rebuilt from GP40s) to the roster a bit more than a year ago. That has sidelined a like number of their RS-18u models, although they are being kept in stroage for the time being.
A pair of the "new" diesels was laying over in Matapéia, QC on March 8 of 2025. GTD Date: 01/04/26 20:32 Re: MLW Killers on the Gaspé Author: 3rdswitch Nice catch.

CP rebuilt them as RS-18u in the 1980s, and CFMG/NBEC took that further with microprocessor and air system enhancements in the 2000s with the RS-18-3b variation. They seem to be merely stored for the time being in Campbellton, where SFG (or possibly an affiliated company) has a shop near the VIA station and CN yard. They also use, or have used, Gaspésie Diesel in New Richmond for work, GD has also refurbished Budd diners for VIA and passenger cars for Rocky Mountaineer, as well as the L'Amiral excursion cars.
