Apparently the two semi's were parked too close to the railroad tracks. The drivers were sleeping when the train hit them at 1:30 in the morning. Based on the post below, it looks like they backed the rigs up a bit too far

In a Facebook post I saw, it appears that there was no delineation between the parking area and the right of way, and both were covered in snow.

Maybe they should place a dirt berm along the edge of the right of way to keep trailers from fouling the tracks in the future.

K rails would probably be faster and cheaper and are much harder to cover up with snow.

was it snowing, semis trying to stay out of the way for plowing?

I'm not sure of the exact source of this photo, but it appears to be a dash cam screen grab from the lead F40, a few seconds before impact.

It seems that the train stopped before the level crossing in the distance, so I think the crew had some warning and put the train in emergency before this frame was taken.

Damn... One trucker completely missed seeing the tracks, and I'm sure the second truck was a case of 'monkey see, monkey do' and didn't even think to look.

Brutal. Its very lucky no one was hurt.

Is there any status report of the equipment? Looks like th two F40s derailed, the baggage car, first coach? What other cars derailed? The train was cleared from the tracks and equipment brought to???? Was anything left onsite for removal? Just curious. And yes, thank goodness the engineers in teh cab saw the back-end of these trucks and were able to put the train into emergency so this wasn't a worse situatiuon.

This photo was taken on Jan. 14th, showing a hospital train (VIA 615) heading west.

The middle F40 is 6435, which was leading the wrecked train (see Ted's photo above).  6435 is facing the other direction in this photo.  I can't identify the baggae car except to say that this one is an ex-CP, while the one involved in the wreck was an ex-UP without the fluted sides.
