Steam Sunday - CP G5a 1201 in Repose at NMST
Author: feclark

Last week I posted an action photo of CP G5a Pacific 1201 in excursion service. This week I have a few roster shots of the locomotive at the National Museum of Science & Technology in Ottawa, ON, from its first season in service here.
1. I couldn't resist the vertical nose shot, clean and sparkling, on a Sunday morning, July 4, 1976. After taking my shots, I went out to shoot it on the move. Some of you are wishing I'd composed the original a bit wider, to get all of the VW Beetle.
2. Later that summer I rode the excursion to Wakefield, QC and back, on August 22, 1976. I was early enough to avoid the crowds, so this was a pretty clean roster shot. It's a beautifully proportioned engine. I wonder if moonliter or anyone else can identify either of the crew.
3. I liked the soft sunlight and took this close-up. Sadly, I can't make out what the brass plate says. The larger builder's plate reads 'Built by Canadian Pacific Railway Angus Shops Montreal G5 June 1944.' It was the last steam locomotive those shops produced, I believe.
