Canadian Railroads > Freight Car Friday - Cracking Chemicals, Gromit! Covered HoppersDate: 03/13/26 12:24 Freight Car Friday - Cracking Chemicals, Gromit! Covered Hoppers Author: feclark Here is a pair of pressure-unloading covered hoppers in service to Davison Cracking Catalysts, a division of Grace Chemicals. Both are 5-bay models, but of different construction.
1. NAHX 550225 was photographed at Brockville, ON, on February 24, 1987. The corporate image was irresistible. 2. NAHX 551160 was photographed in Edmonton, just west of Walker Yard, on May 5, 1999. It was built by Thrall Car, and has a distinctly square cross-section, rather than the circular one of the first example. The subject is a reference to Wallace & Gromit, and Wallace's comment about the toast Gromit has produced. If you get it, great, and if not, no problem. If you don't know these characters, check out 'The Wrong Trousers.' It has the funniest train chase scene you will ever see.
