More GEs and Some Freight Cars in Halifax
Author: cn6218

February 28th saw sunny skies in Halifax and CN train Z120 running about an hour later than "normal".  I first ran into them at the Bedford Quarry, about mile 13.5 on the Bedford Sub, at 11:49.  Trailing the two ES44ACs up front was AC44C6M 3410, the first of the 3rd batch of converted Dash-9s, former CN 2599.  DPU 2882, ahead of the last block of export containers, rolled past at 11:51.  The train had a straight shot down the hill, onto the Transfer Track, and into the west end of Pace Yard at 12:09.

As Z120 pulled into the yard, I grabbed some shots of the various freight cars.

In the intermodal block, usually right behind the power, was good display of Maritime-Ontario and Armour Transport 53 ft. containers.  These are from locally owned trucking companies, and it's good to see them making use of rail for the long haul.

BC Rail bulkhead flat 864163 was framing a bulk carrier in the Basin, as the "junk" cars came into view.  Usually we would see these loaded with utility poles for export, but this one may be picking up windmill parts or other machinery at Pier 9 in the North End of the city.

Also arriving empty was 12-axle flat car QTTX 131630.  It has a 55 ft. long 1" plate steel deck and a gross weight of 360 tons.  Also headed to Pier 9, I believe.
