Canadian Railroads > Then and NowDate: 03/25/26 11:09 Then and Now Author: cn6218 In a post last week I made passing mention of "new" AC44C6M 3410, the first of CN's third order for rebuilt locomotives from GE/Wabtec. The core for 3410 was Dash-9 2599, built in early 1998. My earliest photo of 2599 however was taken on February 11, 2006, when it led 2501, 5698 and train 120 onto the Transfer Track at Millview, in Halifax, NS. After yarding most of the train at Rockingham, the crew ran around the intermodal block and was shoving those cars into the HIT at 09:52, with the A. Murray MacKay bridge and Bedford Institute of Oceanography in the background.
A little more than 20 years later 3410 was trailing as Z120 entered Pace Yard (former Rockingham) at 12:10 of February 28. Although 2599 and 3410 share the same frame, most of the other components could be from any of the batch of locomotives to be rebuilt. The cab is new, and of course the DC traction motors have been replaced with AC. Oddly enough, 3410 still seems to have a 3-chime horn, even though 5-chime models have been the standard for a few years now. Although even that isn't exactly the same one, with one bell being particularly long. GTD Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/02/26 16:00 by cn6218. |
