Canadian Railroads > VIA #1 Canadian deadheads to Toronto Union Station 7/5/26

As of June 2026 (I believe), TorontoLive4K has installed an elevated angle live rail cam watching over the busy 4 track Lakeshore West main (GO Transit, VIA, UP Express, and Amtrak) along the Gardiner Expressway in the Swansea neighborhood of Toronto about 4 miles west of Union Station. As the cam's location is also about 3 miles east of the Mimico Maintenance yard, there are lots of deadhead moves to/from Union Station.

At 0854 Sunday July 5, 2026, VIA #1's pair of F40s shoves the 21 car consist (with 4 domes) east on its 7 mile deadhead move to TUS. The Canadian will depart west from TUS at 0955 up the Newmarket Sub on its 4 day journey from  out of Toronto to Vancouver  so it won't be seen at this location again today.  The next time a Canadian will be seen here will be when #2 deadheads to Mimico on Tuesday afternoon after arriving TUS from the Bala Sub.

At the other extreme, short 2 or 3 unit UP Express (TUS to/from Pearson Airport) deadhead moves of Nippon Sharyo DMUs also pass this cam. Here's a two car train heading east to begin its work day.

And there are lots of long GO Transit trains seen on the Lakeshore West cam operating between Niagara Falls, Hamiltom Aldershot, Oakville and Toronto such as this 12 car train 1977.bound for Niagara Falls ON.

VIA uses this track as well for its 4 daily pair of Windsor/London - Toronto trains but i'm guessing there are also Mimico-TUS deadhead moves such as this Venture double draft heading to TUS in the early morning.

Lastly there's a daily pair of Amtrak trains to/from New York, #63 and #64, the Maple Leaf, Here's # 64 (aka VIA #97 to Niagara Falls) shortly after its 0820 departure from TUS
