Ratkovo - Slovakia
Author: 86235

With our impending move I wanted to make use of our current proximity to Stansted Airport one last time, and so here I am back in Slovakia.

A couple of trains I saw this morning, the first a Kosice to Bratislava passenger, behind a Skoda built class 350 dual voltage electric and secondly a typical freight behind a 3kV DC class 131 double loco, also a Skoda product. The first was taken at 08:54, the second six minutes later.

More, More, please! WE have some friends that live in Kevmarok. We were able to ride the train to Bratislava and on to Vienna some years ago. Thank you for helping us remember our trip. wag216

Here's another from this morning, in less than perfect condition. South of Zilina an ZSSK 770 pulling a loaded cement train under the plant's aerial ropeway.

I agree, wonderful vids!

Did you shoot them with a phone? (I only ask because I want to know if I can safely discard my old Canon video camera)

Thanks, yes they're shot on an 18 month old HTC smart phone.

Final one, also taken yesterday, at Strecno, east of Zilina, where the railway emerges from a tunnel, crossing the River Vah on two single track bridges deep in the gorge. I saw five westbound freights in the space of an hour. Mind you the conditions were not great.

The other thing to notice is that westbounds emerge with their pans down, don't ask me why.
