Polish Steam in Wolsztyn Running Daily
Author: Tominde

Steam is running in daily service again in Poland. Trains run twice each weekday between Wolsztyn and Leszno. Departures are 6:15 AM and 2:55 PM. There is a short turn around and the engine simply runs around the train in Lezno as there is insufficient time to turn on the the turntable. Return trips are tender first. Weekend runs are to Poznan. All of these trains are regular revenue runs normally covered by diesel railcars. There are also numerous special trains. Currently there are 2 working engines with a third engine coming out of rebuild very soon.

Anyone who is a steam enthusiast...particularly "real" steam (Steam Railway Magazine's term, not mine), should go now before things change again. There are only a few places in the world where this still happens and Poland is probably the closest.

Very cool. Is there any extra-fare? Are these carded as regular passenger trains, or some sort of tourist operation?

Either way, another reason to re-visit Poland & EASTERN Europe.

These are regular daily trains (except Sunday) Two trips per day, early morning and afternoon. The Leszno run is 70 mile round trip, and Posznan is 100 mile round trip.
