European Railroad Discussion > Ride on the ICE-2Date: 09/09/17 09:55 Ride on the ICE-2 Author: MEKoch My second trip on the German IC from Eisenach to Fulda; then to Nuremberg. Remarkable here was the "neu bau strecke" (new high speed line) from Fulda to Wurzburg. 230 kmh through tunnels and across bridges. That is 143 mph - my highest speed on a train.
Next to Vienna. The German poirtion through Passau is 80 mph plus. In Austria about same to Wels. Then after Wels the pace picked up to a steady 200 km. After Vienna to Budapest we were on a Rail Jet train. Not nearly as nice as the ICE equipment. Rougher track bed as well. But a business class offers another level of service. All trains on time and well patronized. Posted from iPhone |
