European Railroad Discussion > On time performance Caledonian SleeperDate: 09/13/17 07:59 On time performance Caledonian Sleeper Author: WP17 In a couple of weeks, I will be riding the Caledonian Sleeper from Euston Station in London to Fort William in the West Highlands of Scotland. It's scheduled to arrive at 9:55am. I have also booked a ticket on the Jacobite Steam train that leaves at 10:15 for Mallaig over what many view as one of the world's great train rides. It's a tight connection but if this were Switzerland or Germany, I would have no qualms about this connection.
I'm hoping one of TO members in the UK might have some information on the timekeeping of the Caledonian Sleeper -- is there some amount of padding . in the schedule? Thanks WP17 Date: 09/13/17 08:07 Re: On time performance Caledonian Sleeper Author: 86235 Take a look at www.Realtimetrains.co.uk, put in Fort William in the search box, use 00:00-23:59 and All Services and you can check the trains arrival time for the past 7 days.

The train has electric haulage from London to Edinburgh, then the train splits and is diesel hauled over the route to Fort Willy. I'd say the odds are very much in your favour.
Checking the website 86235 suggests, shows the train has arrived bang on time (or slightly early) every day for the past week...apart from once....eat your heart out Switzerland (which, by the way, is geographically rather small - I'm just saying...)! ;-) PS Hope you get decent weather - if you do, there's nowhere like the west coast of Scotland. Glenfinnan viaduct is absolutely stunning. Edited 6 time(s). Last edit at 09/13/17 11:14 by exhaustED. Because it runs through the night it can encounter various engineering works which by their nature are here one day gone the next, the good news is that the train can easily run East or West Coast if needed and timings are quite slack.
As a point of note I was on a DB / CD train last week that broke down in Dresden station, so it can happen anywhere. Enjoy your trip on the Jacobean. You can occupy your room until a decent hour. Web site should provide actual time. I have always either been on time or early on the few times I've ridden. Wondering if they have the new equipment yet? If so, a report would be appreciated.

From their web site: "We are proud to share some of the changes you can expect to see when we introduce the trains in Spring 2018 – and we look forward to welcoming you on board the Caledonian Sleeper.” andersonb109 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Also note, they don't kick you off the train like > Amtrak upon arrival. Not really, they give you 13 minutes on arrival in London, basically they need you off as platform space at Euston is at a premium. But that was 8 years ago. Or maybe we arrived early.

Or maybe we arrived early Possibly the latter, there's a fair amount of recovery time. The Lowland Sleeper is a little more generous, arrive at 07:07, off by 07:30. |
