European Railroad Discussion > Freight train in ParadiseDate: 10/17/17 09:40 Freight train in Paradise Author: spflow We had the pleasure of travelling back home last month from Tuscany to the UK via Liguria, where we stayed at a wonderful place just south of Genoa called Camogli. We travelled quite a bit on local trains and here we are waiting on the platform for a service south to the Cinque Terra. This train was heading north and clearly had to slow for signals just as it came through the station. It is quite long by European standards, I do not know whether it was heading for Genoa or had departed from Livorno (both major ports), as all the containers were clearly deep sea ones.

Good stuff. Electric freight railroading in North America amounts to next to nothing. Jim Date: 10/18/17 22:28 Re: Freight train in Paradise Author: ConductorsSon And why wouldn't you?

Date: 10/22/17 22:32 Re: Freight train in Paradise Author: Bunny218 Regarding the color on the sides of the rail, it is rather common to see Italian tracks with a white paint or coating sprayed on them. Supposedly, this is done to help fight heat build up in the rails, at least that's what I've been told. I'd like to if that's the official reason, as it just seems strange to me that it would even matter let alone make a huge difference.
