Lutherstadt Wittenberg
Author: MEKoch

I spent two weeks in Lutherstadt-Wittenberg, Germany in late August, preaching in Luther's churches. But there was plenty of time for trains! And DB had spent big bucks to upgrade tracks, stations, and equipment. We arrived on an ICE from Berlin HBF; lovely train managing 200 km for a short 30 minute trip. This segment is part of the new 4 hour service between Berlin & Munich.

#1 ICE-2 train
#2 Turntable in Wittenberg for ethanol plant. I imagine it was motorized. Cars were set on the turntable and then shuttled into the plant. It was a very tight space, but it seemed to work properly and efficiently.
#3 passenger local equipment

The last photo shows a locomotive that DB inherited from DR, who had a major workshop in Wittenberg in the days of the DDR.

From one Lutheran to another, thanks for posting the great photos from Germany. I always enjoy seeing scenes from there.
I was over in 2002 and need to scan all the slides I took then.

Nice stuff. Those EMUs are really new.

Recently I learned that way to recognize former East German locomotives and transit vehicles is the corrugated sides.

Not an ICE-2 rather an ICE-T (for tilting set).

An excellent set of photos, and thank you for posting them.
