Helsinki to Vladivostok-Part 6
Author: CNStratford

In April 1917 Lenin returned to St. Petersburg in a train that arrived at Finlandski Station. This is now the terminus of the Allegro train from Helsinki.
Picture 1 - Picture of Lenin in the Finlandski Station. Below the picture can be seen part of the security process to prevent another terrorist explosion in the metro as experienced on April 3 2017 - only 36 days before our arrival.
Picture 2 - Most of Europe celebrates the end of World War 2 on May 8 but Russia did not stop fighting until May 9 1945. May 9 is called Victory Day and is a day of great patriotic fervour and remembering the millions killed during the war. As a result the metro was so crowded that the short metro ride from Finlandski station to Moskovsky Station was very difficult and slightly frightening. Trains could not stop at overcrowded platforms. Picture 2 shows a jammed ornate metro station.
Picture 3 - shows the map of Russian railways as displayed in Moskovsky Station.
