European Railroad Discussion > And finally a last look at my German tripDate: 03/24/18 06:52 And finally a last look at my German trip Author: Bob3985 To finish up some of the images I took in Germany here are some views from the Bastei. This outcrop of rocks is located in the Southeastern portion of Sachsen, also known as Sachsen Schweiz or Saxon Switzerland. It was a location for defense of the Neurathen castle. It is about 197 meters above the Elbe River and when I arrived my eyes were glued on the wonderment of the scenery.
In photo 1 we see the Bastei bridge built in the mid 1800's to replace a wooden bridge previously built there. In photo 2 we have the view of Czechoslovakia from the Bastei looking down river. In photo 3 we look up river to the west. What amazing views from this location and I can understand it would be an excellent location to defend from marauders coming up river to invade in the early ages. Bob Krieger Cheyenne, WY Date: 03/24/18 06:59 Re: And finally a last look at my German trip Author: Bob3985 Yet as we look down on a quaint little village along the Elbe we see the Deutschebahn line headed toward the border. What a beautiful view from above.
And second is a view of the rail line through the rocks. So I thank all who have stopped in to journey with me on my dream trip to Germany. These were only a few of the over 400 slides I took and I still need to find my slides from Mulhausen France and the SNCF museum. So come join me for a Bier and let's relax in the Biergarten and remember all we saw from this beautiful country. Prosit!! und Auf Wiedersehen. For me, the trip was railroad operations planners, researchers, and professors (you've gotta be some sort of railfan to do that for a living). many thanks for your story. I think it was great trip for you. Wish, you came back in the future for another experience. Would like to meet you and show you more of my home country. Lets have a beer now and enjoy the afterglows. Phil from Berlin, Germany Date: 03/28/18 11:33 Re: And finally a last look at my German trip Author: train1275 Now there is a nice incentive !!
Excellent series, Thanks Date: 03/29/18 07:02 Re: And finally a last look at my German trip Author: Bob3985 Than you for the invitation Phil but surviving on my retirement pay precludes any big trips in my future.
However, should you ever come to visit here, you are welcome in my home and let me show you some railroading in the intermountain west. Prost! Bob Krieger Cheyenne, WY |
