BR at Dover Priory in March, 1985
Author: Korigaoka1811

Several days ago I posted some pictures from my one trip to Britain back in 1985. I wasn't sure, after all these years. whether I took the pictures at Dover or Bath. Commenters disagreed on where I took the pictures so I remain uncertain myself.

But I am sure I took the three pictures below at Dover Priory so I post them here for anyone who may fondly, or not fondly(?), remember BR of the mid-80s.

Definitely at Dover priory - the 3rd photo has a station sign that says so.

A class 73/0 (first photo, 73005) would also not be seen at Bath, plus Bath has no 3rd rail electrification.

Nice shots...including those Ford Cortina taxis in photo 3!

These photos and the last one on the previous thread are in 3rd rail territory - I don't know Dover but given the station sign I reckon all 4 are Dover. The loco hauled picture in the previous thread as no 3rd rail. In any case the "89" on the front of the loco identifies the route and with that in mind that picture is Bath Spa.

Nice to see these from the 'slam door' era at Dover Priory. Love the Ford taxis rotting away in the sea air!! Here's the 'new' Dover' taken in 2014, with a Javelin service for St Pancras International. Chris UK

Are the Javelin trains faster? I imagine so. I recall getting a little "restless" on the train back to London after my day of sightseeing. The train seemed a little slow and, although it wasn't crowded, I couldn't get comfortable enough to take a nap!

Indeed- the Javelins drop onto HS1 routing after Folkestone and easily do over 130mph. I think it's about 55 minutes from London. chris uk

On the high speed part of the route they are, on the 750v DC sections they're not. And you certainly wouldn't be able to snooze, seats are like ironing boards.
