2) Kuybysheva Ulitsa (Street). 3) Nevsky Prospect is the main avenue in StP. Lots of pedestrians, auto and bus traffic. There are torlley bus wires on the right just out of view. The banner is for Victory day. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/26/18 11:13 by Duna. Date: 09/26/18 11:06 Re: Russia, May 2018 - Part 5 Author: Duna 4) Sadovaya Metro. StP stations are clean and efficient, but not as architecturally stunning as many of those in Moscow.
5) Tram at Svetlanovskaya Ploshchad' (square). 6) Inside a newer tram. StP trams allow for boarding at any door. You then scan your ticket or card at one the orange scanners. Almost every StP tram I rode also had a ticket checker who would walk around with a hand scanner checking as many riders. All trams & Metro have WiFi. Edited 1 time(s). 8) Komendantskiy Sq., about 5.5 miles NW of the city center A multi-floor shopping mall is behind me. The northern terminus of Metro line 5 is also here. The condos/apartments are probably 10-15 years old, similar and taller ones are being built today. 9) Ligovskiy Metro. Date: 09/26/18 11:11 Re: Russia, May 2018 - Part 5 Author: Duna 10) Savushkina St. at Lipovaya Alley.
11) Livosky Ave not far from photo #1. 12) Self-serve beer and wine inside Obed Bufet (not all-u-can-eat or drink). Sign says "BEER 1 mug 119 Rubles" (about $1.80) Link to Part 4 https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?17,4638571 Link to Part 6 https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?17,4640815 Edited 3 time(s). The low cost and relative ease of getting flight, hotel, and train tickets online makes the only real drawback the 12-hour flights. Russia offers a single-entry Visa and a three-year multi-visit visa. Wish I got the multi-year one the first time. I agree with what you wrote in the "Moscow South to Grozny Chechnya" thread about the language & the importance of just learning the Cyrillic alphabet. There are a lot of helpful websites and videos. What I have been doing is using Google Street Views and reading Russian street and advertising signs. Also using Google Maps, drill down until restaurant links appear, click on them and most will have online menus with text and photos. Food makes everything more interesting... |
