Bellinzona to Erstfeld then Goschenen to Andermatt and on to Filisur on the Narrow Gauge

SBB swiss federal  railways

MGB matterhorn gotthard bahn

RHB rhaetian railways


buses congregate at Fluelen on the Main Line 

Fluelen station just north of erstfeld

Erstfeld  once a busy helper station now just a wayside stop for passenger trains

infrastructure stock at Erstfeld  yard  the TILO service from Erstfeld to the Italian side of the Swiss Border.

Gotthard the original tunnel at Goschenen still used by local passenger trains  nearly all freight goes via the new base tunnell..

the MGB service hides behind the SBB station at Goschenen and provides a connection to the Narrow Gauge networks at Andermatt

the line is cog rail rack worked...

only a few minutes after leaving Andermatt this spectacular view opens up of where i was  climbing a  grade that would be one of the steepest adhesian worked lines  in Switzerland.....

Filisur ,a junction for the secondary line to Davos and from where i spent the next few days exploring the Rhaetian Railway network to be covered in a few more instalments here,,...

Old dump car perhaps once used in construction of the line now rests under a tree overlooking the valley of Filisur

Some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world.  Beautiful shots.  Weather co-operated with you.  I spent a couple weeks in Switzerland in November one year and it was foggy every day.  Now I see what I missed.

Very nice photos Dave. The climb out of Andermatt is also on a rack as the grade is 11% all the way to Nätschen.

One minor point, when refering to the Rhaetian Railway you should use a lower case "h" i.e. "RhB". The RHB is officially the abbreviation for the Rorschach Heiden Bergbahn, which climbs from the town of Rorschach on the Bodensee(Lake Constance), to the mountain town of Heiden.
