The newer enclosed cars with lots of glass may be popular with the tourists, but seating is cramped and photography difficult.

"Coop" and its main competitor "Migros" are like "Target" and "Walmart" in the US. You see the names on locomotives because Swiss and German railroads treat their locomotives like rolling billnoards, selling the space on the flanks for advertising revenue. The six-car fixed formation set seen in Dave's last photo has an observation car at the other end that is superb for photography. Side windows can be lowered (with electric push buttons) and there's glass in the roof (which can be covered with shades, again by push button). The seats face outward and can be flipped up to provide more walking room, which is very handy when quickly changing photo angles. The sets are called Alvra and are designed to be hauled by locomotives or the Allegra electric multiple units, whose body design they share. I rode several times in these observation sections these during my own RhB adventure in September. With their dump toilets, the older cars you like won't be around much longer. Edited 5 time(s).
