Pardon me, but...although the locomotive is painted blue, it is not "Caley" blue, but a darker shade. Also, lettering on the tender is "G E R", not "C R" as it would be for the Caledonian. I believe that this locomotive is painted for the the pre-grouping Great Eastern Railway; other, more knowledgeable, TO members may be able to offer a better answer.

You're rright. This is Great Eastern 564. I do have difficulties telling some of these engines apart.

But apparently there are two shades of "Calli" blue. As seen on last week's charters.

Interesting! Of course, shades of blue are some of the trickiest to duplicate, and also the quickest to fade (maybe excepting maroon). I based my colo(u)r perception on pictures I have of preserved Caley "single" No. 123, and C. Hamilton Ellis' beautiful painting of big Caley 4-6-0 "Cardean". To me, the locomotive on the left is closer to the original Caley blue, while the one on the right is a bit darker than it should be.

Just my 2 cents' worth (or should that be tuppence?).
