More DB from 1965-6
Author: gbmott

A friend from the Basic Course was my counterpart down in the 4th Armored Division near Crailsheim and I conned up an excuse to go down and "liaise" with him.  I had a little extra time and . . .  All taken July 11,1965.

. . . and a few more.  Not bad for about an hour trackside.  They sure made a quick turn with 38 2972, I was disappointed when I realized that it was the same locomotive I had already photographed, but I got over it.

One more V200 and then, at no extra cost, yours truly at the time (that was a LONG time ago).

I believe 38 2972 is ex-Prussian Railways.  Nice shots!

Yes the BR38 is the famous Prussian P8, great pictures, hopefully more are forthcoming!

Thank you for serving.  My father was stationed over there about 10 years previous to your duty.  He still remarks that hearing the Star Spngled Banner each morning lifted his spirits for the day.

Boy, those V200s are homely!  What color were they painted?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I guess as usual. The V200's are considered to be the nicest looking diesels by many German railfans, and they are indeed classics. Regarding the question on paint, these would have been in dark red, with gray top, and silver/chrome stripes.

I like photo #1 with the American tank on German flat car.  Is it an M60 or M48?  Belonging to 4th Armored or 3rd?  Perhaps moving to a training site?  In my time (60-63) I think 3rd Div was part of V Corps and 4th Div was part of VII Corps.  Looks like you had the 'newer' Jeep: M-151?  (What did S&T stand for on bumper markings?)  We still had M37's, M38's (as I recall)
Nice photos.
Decapod in photo #2 has a very interesting tender.

Great images Gordon and it was a priviledge to work with you on the CSX Santa trip.

He was there too!!!  Last time I saw L. Nystrom, and had some of his comments
on the video, regarding the good will the trips provided.  1992 seems a long time ago!!
Man I was busy that year.

Looks like we were over there about the same time.  I was stationed at Stuttgart Army Airfield from 63-65 when I rotated back the Alabama.
I used to drive my little 54 Beetle down to Tuebingen and wander around the engine terminal and snort coal smoke.  Took very few pictures as I didn't have a very good camera.

Just came across this post, very nice photos !

I kind of have a fancy for the Prussian P8's.

Photo #1 is a really neat shot.
